Aprendí hace apenas dos años, cuando me mude para acá. Compre un par de libros y practique una eternidad hasta que logre terminar una bufanda. Al principio fue de lo más frustrante pero valió la pena. Ahora no lo puedo dejar! es completamente adictivo y relajante. Lo mejor de todo es que solo necesitas un par de agujas y una bola de estambre, se puede llevar a cualquier lado y no requiere de herramientas complicadas o materiales costosos. No quiero sonar como comercial pero de verdad se lo recomiendo a todos.

I learned to knit just a couple of years ago, when I moved here from Mexico. I bought a couple of books and practiced for hours and hours until I was able to knit my first scarf. It was really frustrating but so worth it. Now I can’t stop knitting! It is so addictive and relaxing. Best of all – you only need a pair of needles and a ball of yarn, you can take it anywhere with you and does not require complicated tools or expensive materials. I highly recommend it.

When you’re done making your artistic product, don’t be fooled: YOUR JOB IS NOT YET DONE! In order to *sell* it on Etsy, you must *ATTRACK YOUR BUYERS!* Here are a few tips on how to do just that –and feel free to add your own!

**ELEGÍ EL PLANO DEL FONDO. Si tu producto es claro o refleja el brillo, quizás sea mejor utilizar un fondo oscuro. ** PICK YOUR BACKGROUND. If your product is pale or shiny/reflective, perhaps a dark background is best. Take a look at NaturesStudio and coralia made use of dark backgrounds to bring out their products! LadyFarrah does GREAT job of using a rich brown satiny fabric to complement her terrariums!



**LOS ACERCAMIENTOS SUELEN SER LO MEJOR. Apunta directamente a la “cara” de tu producto. Busca un rasgo interesante, o ángulo y deja que tu producto LLENE el marco – al menos para la foto inicial de la lista. Para lograr acercamientos de los productos pequeños, familiarízate con la función “Macro” de tu cámara – generalmente está identificada con una pequeña flor. ¡Elige un ángulo DIVERTIDO para sumar interés, como lo hizo krtwood!


**CLOSEUPS ARE USUALLY THE BEST! Get right in the “face” of your product. Find an interesting feature, or angle, and let your product FILL the frame – at least for the initial listing photo. For closeups of small products, get familiar with the “Macro” setting on your camera –usually depicted by a small flower. Pick a FUN angle to add interest, like krtwood did, above!



**PIENSA EN ENMARCAR. Un truco: CENTRAR tu producto en el marco NO suele ser la mejor idea – descentrado agrega interés. ¡Échale un vistazo a la foto de NestaHome por ejemplo!


**THINK ABOUT FRAMING. One trick: CENTERING your product in the fram is usually NOT the best idea—of-center adds interest. Taka a look at the photo by NestaHome for an example!



**LOS GRUPOS IMPARES SON MÁS AGRADABLES. Un producto, ó 3, ó 5, suele verse mejor que un número par. Si tienes que mostrar un número par, trata de darle más “peso” a un producto que al otro, como en Pair of Pears.


**UNEVEN GROUPINGS ARE MORE PLEASING. One product, or 3, or 5, usually looks better than an even number. If you must showcase an even number, try giving one more “weight” than the other, like the Pair of Pears, above



**NO TE PREOCUPES PORQUE TODO ESTÉ EN FOCO. Especialmente si estás utilizando la función “Macro” y logrando un acercamiento de un producto más grande desde uno de los extremos, haz foco en un punto de interés y deja que el resto se esfume y se difunda: ¡el resultado puede ser mucho más interesante! **DON´T WORRY ABOUT MAKING IT ALL IN FOCUS. Especially if you’re using the Macro setting, and getting a closeup view of a larger product from one end of it- focusing on a point of interest and letting the rest fade into fuzziness can make the overall result that much more interesting! Just take a look at the photos by twobeans and trpotter, above!



**SI EL ARTÍCULO TIENE UN PATRÓN REPETIDO: ¡haz foco en UNA de las instancias del patrón! Asegúrate de contar con una buena luz, clara (pero difusa) de modo que el artículo esté bien iluminado, pero no haya salpicaduras ni manchas sobre el patrón. **IF YOU’RE SELLING SOMETHING WITH A REPEAT PATTERN: focus on ONE instance of that pattern! Make sure you’ve got good, bright (but diffuse) lighting so that it’s a well-lit, but there are no washed-out or shadowed spots on the pattern. ++ Getting at different angles can really help. I try to move all around, up and down to try to find perspectives that are interesting, flattering for the item, and fit the 5:4 ratio you need for gallery/treasury photos. I take a lot of photos. You have the other four to be informative, the first one is the attention getter.



**¡UTILIZA MODELOS VIVOS PARA LA ROPA en vez de un mannequin!

++It’s much better is you use a live model as opposed to a mannequin for your clothing!



**APROVECHA LAS 5 FOTOS DE LA GALERÍA. Si durante los dos primeros días de haber subido un artículo no tuvo muchas visitas, cambia la foto principal.

++Use all 5 picture boxes and swap the first one if you don’t get a lot of viewers after the first day or two.



**PIENSA EN LA IMAGEN REDUCIDA (THUMBNAIL) cuando saques una foto: lista las fotos como si fuera un strip tease, donde la primera foto sirva para invitar al espectador a hacer clic sobre la imagen para ver el resto. Las otras fotos deben mostrar vistas completas, diferentes ángulos, etc. La primera foto sirve para atraer y crear interés.


++When you are photographing to sell, think of the process of thumbnail: listing with multiple photos as a kind of strip tease, where the first photo is really to entice the viewer to click on the thumbnail to see the rest. Then, the other photos should show full views, different angles, etc. But the first photo is there really to entice and create interest.
